Center for Astro-mineralogy and Meteorite Research

CENTER’S MISSION

"Focus Astrum" aims to become a significant and reputable center for astro-geology, astro-mineralogy, and cosmo-chemistry research and public education. We strive to collaborate with both academic institutions and private industries to open new horizons in space exploration, becoming an important source of knowledge about the geological composition and history of nearby celestial bodies.

STRATEGY

-Forge scientific collaborations and facilitate knowledge exchange with major Lithuanian scientific institutions. This will enhance the promotion, expertise, and technical capabilities for the research of space and space-derived materials.

-Establish mutually beneficial partnerships for scientific collaboration and material exchange with global research centers, universities, researchers, museums, and private meteorite collectors. These partnerships aim to share knowledge and methodologies in the study of meteorites.

GOALS

-Classify new meteorites discovered, identified, and/or studied in Lithuania.

-Become the premier center for popularizing meteoritics in Lithuania and one of the foremost centers for meteorite classification and research.

-Establish a private meteorite museum in Lithuania, exhibiting both classified and currently studied meteorites from Lithuania and around the world, as well as intriguing local rocks. This museum will engage the public in Planetary Sciences, fostering scientific curiosity and promoting a spirit of exploration and discovery.

"Focus Astrum" is a private research center dedicated to astro-mineralogy and meteoritics, founded in 2022 in Lithuania. The center was established and is led by Artūras Chomentauskas, a seasoned meteorite collector, hunter and researcher. "Focus Astrum" is a young research center, primarily funded by the private resources of its founder, leveraging a curated sample collection, and currently conducting most of its research through private contracts at Lithuanian science centers via Open Access. The research center is keen to expand partnerships with other science centers and seeks support, collaboration or investment programs to enhance its technical research capabilities.
